How it works

  1. 1

The AI generates a set of 4–6 items related to your topic with a ranking prompt — e.g. 'Rank these by how dangerous they are'

  2. 2

Students drag items into their personal ranked order on their device and submit

  3. 3

Class rankings are displayed and compared — students explain and debate the differences

  4. 4

The AI then reveals hidden facts about each item that may change everyone's mind

Frequently asked questions

What kinds of things can be ranked?
Almost anything with multiple dimensions: historical events by impact, foods by nutritional value, cities by livability, inventions by importance — whatever matches your lesson topic and sparks genuine opinion.
What if students all rank the same way?
The AI's reveal of surprising facts is designed to challenge even consensus rankings. If the class agrees initially, the reveal typically reorders thinking enough to generate fresh discussion.
Can I set my own ranking prompt?
Yes. Set the topic and the AI generates items and a ranking criterion. For very specific topics, you can also type a custom prompt and the AI builds the challenge around it.
How do students submit their rankings?
Students drag items into order on their phone or tablet through the mobile browser. The drag-and-drop interface works on any modern device — no app or account required.
How long does discussion take?
Plan for 3–5 minutes of comparison discussion and 2–3 minutes for the reveal and reaction. The full activity typically takes 12–18 minutes including setup.
Does Rank It cost anything?
Rank It is free to use. Students join through a shared browser link — no accounts or downloads required on their end.
