Flash Quiz: A Speaking-Focused Quiz Race for ESL
A multiple-choice quiz can check recall, but the explanation behind an answer often matters just as much. Flash Quiz turns each question into a class moment: students answer on phones, compare results, and can explain why an answer is correct or why a tempting option looked right.
One big question, investigated: take a stance, explore the source, learn the words, argue it out, play a review game, and land with the Verdict.

How it works
- 1
Choose a quiz mode: Classic, Calm skies, Turbulence, Team battle, Wager, Rapid fire, or Our class quiz, which draws on today's class materials.
- 2
Students answer on their phones. Mode rules can reward speed, protect beginner pacing, track three lives, calculate team averages, or ask for a wager before the question.
- 3
At reveal, Ask why can invite one student who chose the correct answer to explain it and another who chose a popular wrong answer to say why it looked plausible.
- 4
The altitude board shows the race and mode-specific standings. A boss finale can make the final question worth double.
Frequently asked questions
- Which Flash Quiz modes are available?
- The modes are Classic, Calm skies, Turbulence, Team battle, Wager, Rapid fire, and Our class quiz. Each changes the pace, scoring, or source of the questions.
- What is the Ask why speaking beat?
- After a reveal, the teacher can ask a correct student to explain why the answer works and a student with a common wrong answer to explain why it seemed convincing.
- Can I make a team quiz?
- Team battle uses teams from the Teams widget when available and otherwise falls back to two roster teams. The board compares team average scores.
- What happens in Turbulence?
- Each learner starts with three lives. A wrong or missed answer costs a life, and students who are out cannot answer further questions in that round.
